Indah Water sends tanker to remove blocked sewage2009/12/17 |
A flashback of our report yesterday. |
KUALA LUMPUR: Hours after Streets highlighted the agony of residents of Taman Bukit Anggerik flats who have been enduring a faulty sewerage system for six months, Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) came forward to help.
"Indah Water Konsortium will provide the service for free," IWK head of communications Amin Lin Abdullah told Streets.
He said a desludging tanker was sent to remove some of the sewage blocking the internal sewer within the building.
It was reported yesterday that residents had not only been enduring a nauseating stench from the faulty sewerage system in their building but were also forced to put up with constant overflow of the sewage tank.
On a rainy day, the sewage would overflow and flood several units on the ground floor.
To make matters worse, the faulty system also causes a backflow of the sewage which spills out of the toilets of some of the flats.
The director of Bandar Tun Razak Parliament Constituency Service Centre, Lim Heng Lin, who was helping the residents solve the problem, had urged the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and IWK to help resolve the problem as the residents were from the lower income group and could not afford a private contractor to repair the sewerage system.
Meanwhile, resident Md Padilah Hamid, who had been trying to get the problem solved, was elated over IWK's gesture.
"I'm very happy and would like to thank Streets for publishing the story, Indah Water for their generosity and Lim for looking into our problem. I hope once the problem has been identified, we will be able to decide on what to do next," he said. -- By Sheila Sri Priya
